therapy for LGBTQ+
Therapy should be a place where you feel seen.
As a cis gay man, I want to build a therapy practice where all of my clients feel seen.
For LGBTQ+ clients, it is crucial to have a therapist who is an ally and a therapy space where you feel safe. A space where you can understand yourself and integrate various aspects of your identity can be a healing experience.
Perhaps addressing issues like anxiety aren’t related to your identity but maybe they are. Many LGBTQ+ individuals have experienced homophobia, transphobia, and misogyny. Shame can become internalized and toxic. Addressing and healing trauma, building coping skills and creating a more meaningful life can happen in the context of your identity.
I work with LGBTQ+ clients on anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and identity in a space where your full self is welcome, not just the parts that feel easiest to bring in.
What Brings LGBTQ+ Clients to Therapy
Some clients come with issues directly connected to their identity: navigating coming out, minority stress, family rejection, internalized shame, or trauma related to homophobia or transphobia. Others come for anxiety, relationship issues, or life transitions that may or may not intersect with identity. Both are equally valid, and I follow your lead on how central identity is to the work.
